Well, the official celebration of Noah’s second birthday is officially over, having ended on Saturday night at MyGym in Long Beach. Noah, and co-host Jacob (they are a week apart), invited a gaggle of their little friends and spent two hours (after brief moments of tentative concern at first) burning off enough energy to light a city while the associated parents ate pizza, prevented injury and thought forward to a full night’s sleep as the little ones recovered from the event. We have birthday celebration pictures available in the Photo Gallery!
One of the invitees was another of the growing band of new generation tinkleflick family, Noah’s cousin Talia, who just the day before celebrated her first birthday. Congratulations to Talia and her parents for surviving the first year!
Thanks to all of our family and friends for participating in Noah’s birthday, sending gifts, cards and emails and all of the nice thoughts and wishes. We look forward to a fun and exicitng third year of Noah’s life in 2005.
Yes, it’s true, we actually do have a cat other than former tinkleflick feline Jenny. Some of our friends who come to our house all the time are still surprised that we have another cat. Delilah is somewhat of a recluse but we managed to actually snap a celebrity animal picture of Delilah shacking up with her fellow tinkleflick animal, Cookie.
Another good reason for getting rid of Jenny was that the pet bed just wasn’t big enough for the three of them. Now, Delilah and Cookie can comfortably share this bed. If Jenny was still around, she would have been just out of the picture hissing at these two.
At 12:09 this afternoon (January 9th), we looked at our watches and realized that our little Noah-Bear has been with us for two years!
Noah started off the birthday celebration by running around the house in his diaper and his teddy bear slippers. Noah’s buddy Weston sent him a $2.00 bill and some stickers. Thankfully, the only number Noah really knows is “2″ so we have been able to ask him all day how old he is and he answers the question correctly!
We don’t have any birthday pictures or video yet (check back in a week or so for that) but this picture is of Noah and his favorite website, kbears.com. He generally climbs up on the desk and points at the animals to hear the sounds.
One of the great things about Netflix is that you can try out some movies that you may never buy or rent, especially box sets. When we received the first two episodes of the “Up Series”, we weren’t sure what we were getting into and little did we know that we would get so totally sucked into to.
The concept is that a British television production company in 1964 filmed short Q&As with 14 children all aged 7 and from different social classes. There was no intent at the time to do anything but interview the kids and bring them together in London. However, they decided to go back when the kids were 14 and, then, continued on every 7 years. The second episode was called “7+7″ but, starting with 21, they just refer to each one as “21 Up”, “28 Up” and so on. They are up to “42 Up” and 49 will be the next episode.
It’s hard to believe how fascinating it is to watch these people grow up and see the change in them each 7 years. Wendy pointed out that 7 years is enough time that there are significant changes from one episode to another. None of the subjects leads a public or particularly fascinating life. In all but one case, they are married and/or have started families and are just normal folks, so I still haven’t figured out what is so fascinating about it, but we have been captivated for the over 2 hour running time of each film since we watched the first one.
The first disc has the first two episodes on it, so that’s worth renting because you can see the dramatic difference from 7 to 14 years. And, if you like it, the others are equally interesting.
Anyway, we thought that we’d pass along a hint to our latest favorite movie. Enjoy! And, if you end up watching it, let us know what you think!
